Future Development Workshops

Each year Peridot Theatre adds a training and development component into the year's activities. Peridot sees that the development of skills is critical to the continuing success of theatre in the community.

Peridot Theatre runs a successful actor's course, aimed at inexperienced or beginning actors, as well as a technical theatre workshop. Please read the detail below to determine whether either of these courses might assist in your theatrical development.

Are you a budding actor?

Peridot Theatre has completed its successful Future Development Course for 2008. The course covered stagecraft, voice and character development, body language, improvisation, script analysis and interpretation. It ran for ten weeks, culminating in a short four-performance season at Peridot's Unicorn Theatre.

Peridot has been successfully running the Future Development for several years and many graduates have gone on to perform at Peridot and other Companies, sometimes in lead roles, or have become involved in Stage Management and Technical Roles, having had their interest and awareness of non-professional theatre kindled by involvement in this excellent course.

Not into acting? What about Technical aspects of theatre?

Interested in what happens behind the scenes of a production? Always wanted to stage manage? Fancied designing or operating sound and light?

Peridot runs weekend courses in these technical aspects of theatre. The Stage Management course is conducted by Marion Egerton, a highly experienced and respected practitioner in the independent theatre scene. Lighting and Sound is delivered by Deryk Hartwick who works for the VICTORIAN ARTS CENTRE and has for many years been a member of our board of management overseeing the technical portfolio.

Cost is minimal and Peridot welcomes newcomers to our theatrical family. We will encourage you to develop technical skills and will offer you opportunities to become involved in productions. The courses are not subject to an age limit. If you have a desire to be involved in any aspect of theatre, then one of the workshops could satisfy that creative urge you are feeling.

For further information on either the Acting or Technical course please ring Robyn Kelly on (03) 98986316; alternatively you can email her. When there is enough interest, a date will be confirmed with applicants.
