"The Killings at Newhaven" (Nolle Prosequi) written and directed
by Joe Fairhurst
Nolle Prosequi relates the true story of an obsessed superintendent of a boys’ home on Phillip Island who in 1926 and 1933 killed two boys in his care. Dialogue is taken from court reports of 1934, extensive media coverage across Australia and from the author’s 10 years of research into the shocking events. The killer walked free, thanks to a document signed by Robert Gordon Menzies who was then Victoria’s Attorney General. The boys died with the slur of malingerer on their young souls and were buried in unmarked graves.
